Trailers for New Moon

Trailers for New Moon made the perfect teaser for Twilight movie fans counting down the days until they could get their vampire fix. A few different versions of the trailer offered just enough of the action to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

New Moon is the second installment in the beloved Twilight franchise

The filmmakers behind the Twilight series of films know just how rabid their fans are, so they managed to turn the release of New Moon trailers into mini-events. Forget happening upon a trailer while you're flipping through the channels. The trailers for New Moon came with their own release dates. Four trailers were made for the movie, and they debuted as follows:

• New Moon stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner introduced the first trailer at the MTV Movie Awards on May 31, 2009.

• A special preview of the second trailer was released online on August 12, 2009. The full version of the trailer premiered in movie theaters before the movie Bandslam that week. It was then added as a preview to several other features.

• The MTV Video Music Awards on September 12, 2009, was the launch location for the third trailer.

• Spike TV debuted the fourth and final trailer during their Scream Awards on October 27, 2009.

Attendees of Comic Con in San Diego got a special treat as two scenes from the movie were screened at the event. This special trailer was never screened again.

The New Moon trailers hint at bits of the storyline that are well known to readers of the Twilight series of books. The same central themes of the story appear in all of the trailers: the split between Edward and Bella, Bella's attempts to bring Edward back by taking part in dangerous activities, the emergence of the Volturi and Bella's developing relationship with Jacob, who as a werewolf is a sworn enemy of vampire Edward.

Trailer one sets up the basic story about Edward's split from Bella. Viewers see Bella attend a birthday party thrown for her by the Cullens. When she cuts her finger on some wrapping paper and bleeds, Edward's brother tries to come after her. Edward saves Bella but says that he can't stay with her because it puts her in danger. He vows that they will never see each other again. Viewers also see that Jacob is a werewolf, when he saves her from a vampire and transforms himself into a wolf.

The second trailer is narrated by Jacob (actor Taylor Lautner), who offers some insight into the film while clips of the action are shown. He describes his friendship with Bella and being there for her after Edward leaves. He also hints at the growing chemistry between the pair.

In trailer three, the Volturi emerge, as does Bella's belief that she can see Edward if she put herself in dangerous situations. She jumps from a cliff and sees Edward underwater, but Jacob saves her from drowning. Alice tells Bella that Edward plans to provoke the Volturi into killing him by walking into the sunlight. Bella rushes to Italy to stop him and does so, but not before the Volturi discover that she knows their secret. They demand that Bella be left with them. The trailer ends with a series of fights between the werewolves and the vampires and Edward and the Volturi.

The fourth trailer is shorter than the rest and includes no new images from the movie. It highlights the major plot points involving Edward's departure, Jacob's love for Bella and his transformation into a werewolf to protect her from the vampires.
