Review of Movie Download Sites
From LoveToKnow Movies
The five reviews of movie download sites below assume that you are looking for hard to find movies or free movie downloads or streaming. Streaming seems to be the way movie sites are delivering movies to you, but there is software out there that allows you to take the embedded movie and pop it onto your computer. NOTE: Only use such software for downloading free or Creative Common-licensed movies, not copywritten films.
A Review of Movie Download Sites
The following reviews of movie download sites will let you know how they work and what you'll find there:
MoviesFoundOnline.com
This website has many movies available for viewing and is used as a database of public domain, free, and Creative Common movies. The movies stream from other sites like YouTube and play within the webpage so you don't leave their main site. The movies stream onto your computer, but if you have an embedded media ripper, then you can download the movies that are already free.
[Movies Found Online] has referenced a lot of movies from The Great Train Robbery of 1903 to documentaries that were recently released. The movies are indexed by year or alphabetically and actual descriptions are taken from [IMDB]. This is a good site if you are looking for a good variety of documentaries and old B-movie horror flicks.
Cinema Now
For a pay site, Cinema Now is a pretty slick site that offers old and new movies for download or streaming. Basically you buy or rent respectively. If you download, then you have unlimited viewing on up to three devices, one being your computer once it's downloaded.
Prices are reasonable. Purchasing them outright on new release day is usually the full $19.99, but if you wait a few weeks, they sometimes drop quickly. Renting them is about the cost of going to Blockbuster or Hollywood video except you don't actually have to go there.
What makes Cinema Now unique is that you can burn the movie directly to a DVD. First you have to download their DVD burning software.
Entertainment Magazine Index
At the Entertainment Magazine Index you can stream or download movies to watch. It isn't a fancy site, but they make it very easy to download the free and public domain movies with a simple link entitled Download File. Looking for a particular genre? Emol.org has filed the movies in a good number of categories for finding them easily. You can also view movie trailers and even music videos if you are in the mood for those.
Sometimes when the site is busy, the stream and downloading sequences take a little extra time. For instance, when the music video Stars are Blind was clicked on, the video player embedded on the site took about five minutes start before it buffered the video.
Apple iTunes Movies
By using iTunes 7, you can download movies to your computer. Unfortunately, you have to use the proprietary software, which is cumbersome on the computer. One positive to iTunes Movies is that the movies are inexpensive. When they are released, you can purchase movies for $12.99, then $9.99 after about a month or so.
You can also download TV shows and music videos for anywhere from $.99-$2.99. For the movies and TV shows you won't get DVD quality, but you do get good enough quality to watch on your computer or portable device.
FreeDocumentaries.org
Perhaps you need a documentary fix. [http:/www.freedocumentaries.org Free Documentaries] should have what you need. Be warned that most of the documentaries deal with politics, religion, and conspiracy theories about the United States and wars. But you can stream them to your computer or download for absolutely free. They are the full length versions, so nothing is edited or changed. View Michael Moore films as well as independent documentaries that exploit some of the biggest problems in the world. For something really interesting, check out Supermarket Secrets, Part 1 & 2. It will make you aware.
The website breaks down each documentary by category, depending on what mood you are in. Some of the sections are :
- 9/11 Documentaries
- Animal Abuse Documentaries
- Election Documentaries
- George Bush Documentaries
- Religious Documentaries
- War Documentaries
Surely, you should be able to find something.
