The Independent Movie Channel or IMC for short, features a wide selection of online movies.
About the Independent Movie Channel
The Independent Movie Channel has over 200 films in its online library. Once you register on the IMC website, you can begin watching the film of your choice. The site offers a seven-day free trial in which users can test out the service to see if they like it before making any purchases. The IMC offers three ways for its users to view films:
- Pay-per-view – With this option, viewers can watch the film of their choice an unlimited number of times and at any time of the day or night within a 24-48 hour period.
- Buy – Users buy the film and download it to their computer.
- Premium – Those who subscribe to the premium option offered by IMC can watch any of the films available in the premium section of the website.
- Premium plus – Premium plus subscribers have access to all the films in the IMC library.
IMC offers movies across all genres including:
- Horror
- Comedy
- Drama
- Romantic comedies
- Thrillers
- Action
- Animated films
You can search for a particular film either by title or genre.
Watching Movies on IMC
Once you join, you can choose to either download the movie of your choice to your computer or stream it. Whether you want to download or stream is really a matter of personal choice.
Streaming doesn't take up any memory on your computer; downloading does, usually right around 500-600 megabytes. The download time varies depending on your Internet connection and your computer. If you have a sketchy, slow or low bandwidth Internet connection, you may want to choose to download your film in order to avoid interruptions and poor picture or sound quality while watching it.
System Requirements
You don't have to have any special software or hardware to watch movies from the Independent Movie Channel on your computer. Here are some things you do need, though:
- An Internet connection of 100 kilobytes per second (kbps).
- Adobe flash player – It is recommended that you use the most current version of this free flash player offered by Adobe. Visit the Adobe website to see if you have the latest version.
- A media player program – Windows Media Player works just fine for viewing IMC films.
- Web browser – IMC films are compatible with any web browser including:
- Netscape
- Internet Explorer
- Firefox
- Opera
IMC recommends Firefox or Opera if you're having trouble viewing your movie using Internet Explorer or Netscape.
The Advantages of IMC
Watching movies on your computer has a lot of advantages:
- No trips to the video store
- No waiting for your movie to come in the mail
- No late fees
At first, some people find that watching movies on your computer takes a little getting used to, which for some, it does. If you have a decent Internet connection (if you choose to stream as opposed to download) and a decent computer, watching movies from IMC on your computer is fast, easy and very convenient.
Currently, the IMC library has over 200 films from which to choose. Way back when, it used to be that independent films were made, but rarely widely distributed. That is still the case for some of these types of films.
Once upon a time these films were considered low budget "B" movies, but that is no longer the case. Now, high quality independent films are made all the time. This opens the door for lesser known directors and actors to get their art out to the masses. It also allows the masses, especially those who easily tire of the typical "Hollywood" movie formula, to find their own little known gem of a movie. Maybe even their new favorite movie of all time.
