There are a number of websites where you can get free movie trailers, but some of these are not as safe as others. You should definitely be careful when you take a stroll off the beaten path, because many of the sites that offer illegal downloads and bootleg movies online are also infested with all sorts of viruses, worms, malware, and other nasty things that you don't want on your computer. When downloading trailers, have fun, but remember to proceed with caution too!

Whether you're interested in anime movies or classic Christmas movies, there is somewhere where you can at least download free movie trailers to these terrific flicks.

YouTube

YouTube is probably the Internet's largest source of free streaming videos and amongst these videos are several movie trailers. These previews may or may not be official releases from the studios, so do watch them with a grain of salt unless they were uploaded from the original source. Even so, YouTube makes for a great opportunity to watch trailers that may not necessarily be available in your area, like Bollywood films.

On the downside, these videos are not technically available as a free download, but there are tools available on the web that let you download the movie trailers onto your computer. This will be covered in the section near the end of this article, because the process is much the same for Google Video.

Google Video

Much like YouTube, Google Video is also a great source for free movie trailers online. Because Google Video has less of a "community" to it than YouTube, there is a better chance that the trailers you find on this site are more legitimate and possibly of better quality. From I Am Legend to Speed Racer, you'll find a huge library of trailers for your viewing enjoyment.

As with YouTube, the clips on Google Video are streaming and are not necessarily available for download. It is interesting that nearly all YouTube clips are available for viewing through Google Video, though, and they will show up in the search results. That said, if you hit up most Google Video clips, there is a pull-down menu on the side that lets you download the video file in formats compatible with the iPod or PSP. This is known as an MP4 file.

Apple Trailers

Yes, they do more than manufacture the iPod and iPhone. Apple.com also has a section dedicated to providing movie trailers with a distinct focus on the latest and greatest. For most of the movie trailers listed on the Apple website, you have a choice between several video formats. They will typically offer the trailer in small, medium, and large resolution, as well as 480p, 720p, and 1080p hi-definition. There is also the possibility to download the free trailers to your iPod.

Naturally, not all trailers are available in all formats, but the download process couldn't be easier. Just choose your format and then hit the download button. Because it's coming straight from Apple, you can feel safe from viruses and bad guys too.

Download FLV, Convert to AVI

For any streaming video site -- like YouTube and Google Video -- there are ways to "grab" the video file and then convert it to the format that you'd like. This is obviously an unofficial method and you should only proceed if you feel comfortable with sites that may or may not be safe. The legalities may also fall into a gray area.
