V for Vendetta

If you missed V for Vendetta at the theatre, you will definitely want to catch it on DVD. "V" is a masked man on a double quest: he seeks revenge for his own tortured past; and he wants to overturn the futuristic totalitarian British government through the combined power of chaos and the will of the people. Starring the likes of Hugo Weaving of Matrix and The Lord of the Rings fame and Natalie Portman from the Star Wars prequels, V for Vendetta provides a combination of talented acting and riveting storyline, this 2005 science fiction action adventure is well worth your time and money. V for Vendetta is rated R for violence and language. Look for this August DVD release in your local stores on August 1.

The Aristocats

Originally released by Disney in 1970, The Aristocats is due out on DVD on August 8. This family movie tries to provide something that everyone will enjoy by including a nice variety of romance, jazz-playing cats, and sinister catnappings.

As with most of the classic Disney animated movies, this is one of those DVD purchases that will pay off for years to come as generations watch The Aristocats again and again.

Scary Movie 4

If you are one of those people who finds as much humor in the rote plots of some of the most popular horror flicks are fear, you will be delighted to learn that Scary Movie 4 is among the August DVD releases.

Once more, Anna Faris returns in the role of Cindy Campbell, the bimbette who always seems to attract supernatural occurrences. This time, she moves into a house haunted by a dead boy. As she searches for his killers, also sorts of strange happens go on that require the acting skills of such personalities as Dr. Phil, Shaq, Debra King, and Charlie Sheen to keep the ridiculous from turning into down right unwatchable. But it is the ridiculous that makes the Scary Movie series so redeemable.

Released in theatres in 2006, you can find Scary Movie 4 on DVD on August 15. This movie is rated PG-13 for crude and sexual humor, violence, and language.

Hoot

Hoot is a family film about a family that moves Florida and get involved in saving a population of endangered owls from the clutches of a heartless land developer. Directed by Wil Shriner and starring Logan Leman, Brie Larson, Cody Linley, and Luke Wilson, Hoot is filled with plot twists and humor. It is rated PG for bullying and mild language. Look for Hoot on DVD beginning August 15.
